Three years ago, Rockie Fresh went to Los Angeles to join MMG and Rick Ross in Sunny, CA. It took awhile for that marriage to materialize into music but that's precisely what we've gotten over the last few months or so. Most recently, Rockie honed in on a very specific portion of that journey with the release of his four track mixtape, The Night I Went To...Los Angeles that released overnight exclusively on DatPiff.
This release is a furtherance of his previous collection, The Night I Went To... with a more precise focus, perhaps. Musically, it's similar to what we came to expect from Rockie on earlier mixtapes while he was still here in the Midwest. Today though, the bars come delivered through the prism of working for one of the most inflated acts in the game today. "Your Life Remix" with Ross and Casey Veggies is a kiss to the ring if there ever was one, but the rest of the offering isn't without some bright spots. Hit-Boy handles the backing production on one of those lighter notes, "All I Want" that is likely the standout here. Papi Beatz gets a nice look here as well on easily the most intriguing track on the project in "Addicted". This one is a small evolution for an act I can't help but feel like is in need of a new environment to work out his creative processes. Check it out above.
