Update: Making his return to round out the April ChiBrations feature, Cole DeGenova and accompanying band offer up an exclusive live performance of Cole's original song, "We Broke." Cole has been performing the song live for the past several months, but this is the first studio recording of the track that's set to be released on an upcoming album from Cole. There's no release date established for the new project, but with his last album being released back in 2015, Cole is due up. While we wait on what's next, enjoy this up-tempo struggle anthem and dive into Cole's existing catalog, we're sure you'll find something you enjoy.
There are some people in this world lucky enough to find their lane and make it their own at a very early age. As somewhat of a late bloomer myself, I envy those with the ability to discover their strengths and be able to stay the course long enough to really go for it, and make it a life long passion and profession. While Chicago's Cole DeGenova still has plenty of life to live, he did discover his love for music at a very early age and has made it a priority ever since.
Growing up in a family of musicians, Cole wasn't even 5 before beginning to learn how to play piano and by 15 he was playing professionally in an around Chicago. Frequenting jazz and blues clubs isn't generally on a teenagers day to day schedule, but for Cole his music has and likely will continue to take him on an unconventional journey.
Years of practice, a college education and several albums under his belt, Cole DeGenova has made music his career, spending the last several years on tour performing songs from his most recent release The Radio Hero Mixtape among other projects. Back in Chicago and back in the studio, Cole joins the ranks of ChiBrations alumni and performs a cover of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" for his first of two live videos this April. Backed by George Wundsam (guitar), Luc Parcell (bass) and Jonathan Marks (drums), Cole breathes new and original life into a song that has been performed by so many over the years.
A great song and an excellent performance at Soap Box Studios, but this is just the introduction. Check back later this month when Cole DeGenova makes his return to perform one of his original tracks.
